2007-03-28 - New SOFTWARE Updates for TASCAM US-2400, FW-1884

Steinberg Cubase / Nuendo Support & Plug In Control

Montebello, CA (July 6, 2004): New updates for the US-2400 and FW-1884 extend support for Steinberg applications and allow users to map FW-1884 surface controls to software applications via new virtual MIDI ports. The new firmware for the US-2400 is supported by Steinberg Cubase 2.2 and Nuendo 2.2. Additionally, those new Steinberg versions support the FE-8 extender for the FW-1884 via Mackie Control emulation. The new driver for the FW-1884 allows surface controls in MIDI Controller mode to be assigned to soft synths, plug-ins, or any other software that allows generic MIDI controllers to be mapped to parameters.

"TASCAM is determined to update our computer recording products to support as many applications and protocols as we can," says Jim Bailey, Product Development Manager for TASCAM. "The benefit to using existing protocols is that we can move more quickly to add support for popular DAWs. TASCAM works with numerous software developers so we can ensure that our controllers will improve workflow in as many real world situations as possible."

The TASCAM US-2400 is a 25-fader control surface for DAW applications with an MSRP under $2,000. The US-2400 features 25 touch-sensitive 100mm moving faders for full mix control without patching together multiple expanders. Each of the 24 channels has an assignable encoder with an LED ring that shows the current value or doubles as a signal meter. A full transport section is also included for DAW control, as well as a joystick for surround panning.

The FW-1884 is a combination Audio/MIDI interface and Control surface. Communicating with the host computer through FireWire, the FW-1884 features 18 channels of audio input and output, eight microphone preamps, four MIDI ins and outs, S/PDIF and ADAT digital ins and outs, and a surround-capable monitor section. The control surface side features eight touch-sensitive moving faders plus a master fader, dedicated EQ controls, eight channel strips with pan/aux encoders, mute/solo/select buttons and an array of shortcut keys.
