2009-01-12 - TASCAM CELEBRATES 30 YEARS OF PORTASTUDIOS

New DP-004 Is the Latest From Inventors of Home Recording

Montebello, CA (January 15, 2009): It was thirty years ago that TASCAM created the home studio with the 144 Portastudio, a combination cassette recorder and mixer. The Portastudio introduced musicians to multitrack recording, so that they could record a track, then rewind and record a second track along with it.

Today, TASCAM still sells musician-focused Portastudios. The latest model is the DP-004, a battery-powered four-track recorder. The new model records CD-quality audio to SD Card media, yet retains the knob-laden interface of TASCAM's original cassette Portastudios.

"TASCAM has culled 30 years of recording experience into a lineup of the best portable recorders available anywhere," said Paul Jenkins, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for TASCAM. "From affordable portable recorders through professional multitracks used on broadcast specials and feature films, only TASCAM has a selection of recorders that takes musicians through every step of their career."

The DP-004 can record two inputs at a time, either from microphone inputs or a pair of built-in microphones. A finished song can be mixed to a dedicated stereo track and then transferred to computer using its USB 2.0 connection.
