2008-01-09 - SOUND DESIGN USES TASCAM X-48 ON AWARD SHOWS AND SPECIALS

96-Track System Captures American Music Awards, Movies Rock and Celebration of Gospel Broadcasts

Hollywood, CA (January 17, 2007): Sound Design Corporation, one of the leading providers for location broadcast recording, has recently employed a pair of TASCAM X-48 recorders for use on some of the entertainment industry's most-prestigious award shows and network specials. The 96-track digital recording system was most recently used on the American Music Awards for ABC television, Movies Rock on CBS television and Celebration of Gospel for BET television.

"The X-48s are used to record live band rehearsals," explained Paul Sandweiss, President of Sound Design Corporation. "This allows the mix engineers to perfect their mix and store them as console scene presets, so that when the bands perform live on the show those mix settings are instantly recallable. We also record all the live performances on the show for archival purposes using the X-48s, and they have performed perfectly and sound great as well."

The American Music Awards was produced by Larry Klein for Dick Clark Productions and broadcast live form the Nokia Theater in Downtown Los Angeles. Movies Rock, a Don Mischer Production, was taped at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood and featured performances by Beyonce, Tony Bennett, Carrie Underwood, Queen Latifah, Usher, Marc Anthony, Mary J Blige, John Legend, Will i Am, LL Cool J and others. It was recorded with a 60-piece orchestra and mixed to 5.1 for the CBS broadcast. BET's annual Celebration of Gospel was also recorded to the 96-track X-48 system. That broadcast, hosted by Steve Harvey, included performances from Patti LaBelle, Yolanda Adams, BeBe Winans, Fred Hammond, Kirk Franklin, Shirley Ceasar, the Ray Chew orchestra and many others.

TASCAM's X-48 offers the stability and ease-of-use of a stand-alone hard disk recorder with the GUI, editing features and plug-in compatibility of computer-based digital audio workstations. The X-48 boasts 96kHz/24-bit recording across all 48 tracks, world-class synchronization and file import/export for workstations like Pro Tools®. It goes beyond stand-alone recorders with its built-in automated 48-channel digital mixer, VGA display output, powerful editing functions and DVD+RW backup, transforming the X-48 into a complete standalone workstation.
